PYRAMIDS OF MARS

I had the design for this one in my head almost since the DVD range began, and it's one of the very few covers I've done that uses no screen captures from the TV series (as the DVD wasn't out in Region 1 at the time). I knew, without a doubt, that I wanted to use the very iconic image of Sutekh possessing the Doctor, and the combination of those photos with a couple of different lighting effects just works perfectly, I think. The pyramid with the mymmies seemed like a natural way to finish off the composition, but it was ridiculously hard to do, combining a pristine black-and-white photo of that scene with a much hazier, low-quality color shot, and even colorizing it in a few spots. It just might be the most minute work I've done for one of these, but I think it was worth it - after all, this is my favorite "Doctor Who" story ever, so I'd better be happy with the result!
